The year 2024 marked an explosive success for students and faculty of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education (HCMUTE), with a series of remarkable accomplishments in both domestic and international academic arenas. With 700 scientific publications, including 298 papers in WoS/Scopus-indexed journals and 226 student research projects, HCMUTE continues to affirm its position as a leading center for research and innovation. Notably, the university climbed to the 421–430 band in the QS Asia 2025 Rankings, a testament to its journey toward building a comprehensive, innovative, and globally integrated education system.

At the “Euréka 2024 – Student Scientific Research Award,” HCMUTE students achieved 5 awards: 1 second prize, 1 third prize, and 3 consolation prizes. The standout project, “Research and production of eco-friendly wood adhesive from Vietnamese jackfruit seeds,” by students Bui Phuong Dong, Pham Huy, and Pham Duc Thinh impressed with its application of agricultural by-products in the wood processing industry, earning the second prize.

The third prize was awarded to a project on yam starch research by Nguyen Thanh Dat's team, focusing on solutions for public health support.

 

Beyond science and technology, HCMUTE students continued to make a strong impression at the “Vietnam Young Logistics Talents 2024” competition, where the LOGTOWIN team claimed second place with their “Green Logistics – Collecting pesticide packaging waste in Tien Giang” project.

In the 2024 National Mathematics Olympiad, HCMUTE’s team won 4 prizes: 1 first prize, 1 second prize, and 1 third prize. Notably, Duong Thien Tuan, a student in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, won first prize in Calculus Category B, surpassing nearly 700 competitors from 95 teams nationwide.

 

Alongside student achievements, HCMUTE faculty also shined with groundbreaking research. Lecturer Ha Thi Hue won second prize in the “2024 Science and Technology Award for Lecturers at Higher Education Institutions” with her study on applying red reishi mushrooms in cosmetics. Her findings revealed strong antioxidant properties, opening significant potential in the natural beauty and skincare industry. Meanwhile, Dr. Tran Vi Do received a consolation prize for his project on developing a game-based physical therapy system, integrating modern technology to enhance ankle joint recovery for patients.

 

On the international stage, HCMUTE’s AITB team excelled at the Altair Global Student Contest (APAC region) 2024, winning the January first prize with their project, “Applying Altair Inspire software to optimize the rear swingarm of motorcycles,” achieving a 55% weight reduction while maintaining technical standards. The PeakPerformers team secured second place in the APAC region with their project on optimizing the design of cable car grips, reducing weight by 44% and increasing the safety factor from 4.0 to 8.6. These achievements highlight the outstanding creativity and technical expertise of HCMUTE students in global competitions.

 

The first Smart City Microchip Design Contest was another proud milestone, as the Sigsegv team earned second prize with their “Hardware design for defogging images from smart cameras” project. Their innovative fog processing solution using AI also won two additional awards: “Best Poster” and “Most Impressive Project Presentation.”

Beyond individual achievements, HCMUTE hosted significant academic events, including the “Ho Chi Minh City Artificial Intelligence Challenge,” “Ho Chi Minh City Young Informatics Contest,” and the ICSERA 2024 International Conference. Notably, the 7th GTSD Workshop attracted over 300 submissions from 10 countries, with 202 papers published in prestigious international journals, focusing on green technology and sustainable development solutions.

 

The impressive numbers, notable awards, and high-impact research projects clearly demonstrate the exceptional research capabilities of HCMUTE students and faculty. These successes reflect the university’s strategic direction of “Innovation in University Governance and Global Integration,” which remains a key mission for the 2024–2025 academic year. This solid foundation will enable HCMUTE to further improve its rankings in regional and global university charts, reaffirming its pioneering role in Vietnam’s higher education system.
